Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce people new to the world of firearms a safe and measured exposure to best practices, safe handling, proper terminology, and basic understanding of handgun fundamentals. This course is taught in a respectful, stress free manner. Safety, student comfort and minimizing anxiety are primary objectives for the training environment. Trainees will earn a certificate of completion.

TOPICS:

  • The rules of firearm safety.
  • Basic anatomy of modern handguns.
  • Basic anatomy of a cartridge.
  • How handguns, magazines, and ammunition all work together.
  • Common malfunctions and how to address them.
  • The legalities of handgun ownership and transport.
  • How to shoot. Stances, grips, etc.
  • Sight picture and alignment.
  • Firearm control (grip, hold, breath, trigger).
  • Range layout, rules, and what to expect from your first time shooting.
  • Range shooting.

Course Details:

  • An Introduction Packet will be set to you upon registration.
  • This course is 4 hours long, including 2.5 hours classroom and 1.5 hours range time.
  • This course is not physically demanding.
  • This course does not include stress induction.
  • Trainees will be expected to sign a waiver to partake in class.
  • A training certificate can be provided upon course completion. Please email K&B staff upon enrollment at info@keepandbearllc.com if this is required, and provide your name the way you would like it to appear on your certificate.

 

Trainee Considerations:

  • Trainee must be at least 12 years old.
  • Non-adult trainees must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All trainees are expected to demonstrate care, consideration, engagement in a safety mindset, and the respect and responsibility expected of training with dangerous items.
  • PREREQUISITE: None.
  • Before class, trainees should read and attempt to understand the 4 rules of firearm safety.
  • Female trainees who are pregnant should not take training that involves live fire. Studies are currently indicating that the loud noise associated with firearm discharge is not sufficiently attenuated in the womb, and can result in hearing issues after birth.

Equipment Considerations:

  • Minimum ammunition required is 100 rounds.
  • Trainees that have not yet purchased a firearm may arrange to use K&B staff firearms. Well before the course, please contact K&B staff at info@keepandbearllc.com to discuss.
  • Trainees must have eye protection and hearing protection. Electronic hearing protection is recommended.
  • Trainees should bring clothing appropriate for the weather (this course includes range training taking place outdoors). This includes wide brim hat for sun, temperature-appropriate clothing, and footwear suitable for potentially muddy conditions. Female trainees should wear a high collar shirt so that ejected hot brass does not go places it shouldn’t.
  • Trainees should bring food and hydration suitable for moderate activity.
  • Trainees should bring note taking materials.

  • Course is held in Brighton, MI at a private facility.
